You and your partner may not always agree on movie genres, but you both know you’re tired of searching aimlessly through Netflix. Sometimes you just crave a film to satisfy the romantic in you, and there’s nothing like the pleasure of finding a movie that you can both snuggle up and watch. Next time you run out of shows to binge-watch, try one of these movies together, listed from newest to oldest:
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
Why you will like it: This film tells an complex, tension-filled story that deals with romance, mental health, and a lot of other pieces of a relationship that makes us human.
Why he will like it: No one can say no to a movie with Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. If he’s not convinced, remind him he’s the guy in American Sniper, Limitless, and The Hangover.
Knight and Day (2010)
Why you will love it: We’ll never complain about a movie that unites Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise. If you’re not up for the emotional investment of an all-out romance, this one is perfect.
Why he will like it: Funny, fast-paced, and light-hearted, with enough car chases to keep you both happy.
Hitch (2005)
Why you will like it: Will Smith plays the role of a professional “date doctor.” What could be better than watching Will Smith teach other guys to talk to women?
Why he will like it: Enough comedy to make him forget this is a romance. Also, Will Smith.
Sleepless in Seattle (1993)
Why you will like it: Another one that’s worth watching again (and again). This story is unique and endearing and a refreshing break from the teen flings we’re used to seeing in new romance movies. Plus, we’re never opposed to Tom Hanks.
Why he will like it: This endearing film will warm his heart, even if he won’t admit it, and appeal to the old soul in everyone. It’s entertaining, heart-warming, and funny.
Princess Bride (1987)
Why you will like it: Even if you’ve already seen this one, it’s worth a re-watch. It’s always fun to quote along with the movie.
Why he will like it: We all love the blend of action and romance in this classic. Even if he’s all for realistic action scenes, he can’t pretend the duel between Wesley and Inigo Montoya isn’t 10/10.
Annie Hall (1977)
Why you will like it: This one’s old enough to be refreshing and nostalgic without going B&W. A charming balance of humor and romance that’s somehow still sobering.
Why he will like it: This film is amusing and entertaining, and Woody Allen will almost make him forget this is a romance.
